why clean your roof
Over time, dirt, moss and algae can build up on your roof. Moss and algae tend to grow in damp, shaded areas and can cause damage to your roof both directly and indirectly. If you allow large patches of moss to grow on your roof, moss acts like a sponge, absorbing large amounts of moisture and resulting in your roof being constantly wet. If this moisture travels underneath the tiles, it could rot the wooden components of the roof, threatening structural integrity and leading to costly repairs. Moss is also very likely to grow in between roof tiles, filling up the voids between them which can lift the tiles and expose what lies underneath to the elements. In order to keep and retain an efficient roof with good water run-off, it is important to keep your roof clean and in good condition. We experts recommend that you have your roof cleaned every three to five years, however if your home is close to large trees, or in shadow for much of the day, then it’s likely you will need to have it cleaned more often.
how we clean
We would never walk or stand on your roof nor would we jet-wash as this could detrimental to the structural integrity of the roof.
We carry out all roof cleans safely from the ground or by the use of working at hight platforms such a podium ladders or scaffold towers using light weight carbon fibre extendable poles.
Steam cleaning is our chosen method of cleaning, carried out using very low pressure with a low flow rate of around 6 -10 litres per minute heated to around 140 degrees. Given instant results, the low pressure steam from the hot water removes all the unwanted dirt, moss and algae rather relying purely on pressure.
Once the roof is cleaned, if necessary we’ll then treat your roof with a HSE approved chemical designed for roof cleaning. It actively prevents the regrowth of any unwanted moss or algae, for a minimum of twelve months from the day of application. This method can keep your roof clean for average of 3-5 years. This time scale depends on the property's environment as a more rural home is more likely to show signs of regrowth faster than a townhouse.
